      Okey, sometimes called Turkish rummy, is a tile game for four players. This page opens Okey 101, while the 14-tile game that most English sources call okey is Classic Okey. In Okey 101 you get 21 tiles (22 if you start), open with at least 101 points or five pairs, and the lowest total wins once someone reaches 1,000. Play against the computer or at a free online table with no account, in a private room by code (an account to create one, none to join), or at the credit tables (an account, 18+, no money value).

      Classic Okey, the 14-tile game, has a page of its own, with its rules and a game panel that starts on it. The rest of this page is about Okey 101, which Turkish players call Yüzbir Okey, “hundred-and-one okey”.

      How a hand of Okey 101 goes

      One tile is turned face up as the indicator, and the tile one number higher in its colour is the okey: both copies are wild. Each player gets 21 tiles and the starting player 22, which leaves 20 in the stock. You arrange yours on the rack in two or three rows, depending on your screen, and two sort buttons line them up by colour and run or by number and set.

      Each turn you draw, play and discard. Nothing goes on the table until you open: runs and sets worth 101 points in one turn, or five pairs. Then you can lay new melds, add tiles to the melds on the table, and take an okey back from the table by putting the tile it stands for in its place. Discarding an okey, or a tile that a meld on the table could take, costs +101.

      The first player to lay down every tile and discard the last one scores −101. The others score the tiles left in their hands plus 101 for each okey they still hold, or 202 if they never opened. Throwing the okey as your last tile, or finishing after a pairs opening, doubles the finish and the others’ hand scores (202 becomes 404). The 101s are never doubled. That covers the 101 for each okey still held and every +101 discard penalty. The scoring section follows a hand through to the score sheet; the match goes on until a total reaches 1,000, and the lowest total wins.

      Turkish words at the okey table

      You will hear these Turkish words at an okey table, and the guides on this site use them too:

      • gösterge: the indicator, the face-up tile that decides the okey;
      • ıstaka: the rack your tiles stand on;
      • işlek: a playable tile, one that fits a meld on the table, so throwing it costs +101 (when a tile is işlek);
      • çifte gitmek: going for pairs, opening with five pairs instead of 101 points;
      • elden: going out in one go, laying the whole hand at once before anyone else has opened (what it scores).

      The okey terms guide explains every word, with how to say it.

      How to play

      1. In the game panel, choose Vs Computer, or the button beside it for the online tables.
      2. Under Variant, Okey 101 is chosen to begin with. For the 14-tile game choose Classic Okey (14), and for partners Classic Okey — Teams (2v2). The steps below are for 101; Classic Okey's are on the Classic Okey page.
      3. The indicator (gösterge) is turned face up. The okey is the tile of its colour one number higher; after a 13 the okey is the 1. Everyone gets 21 tiles, and the starting player gets 22 and discards on the first turn without drawing.
      4. On your turn, draw from the stock or take the tile your left-hand neighbour has just discarded. In 101 a tile taken from the left must be used in the same turn, so you can take it only when it has a use.
      5. Open your hand with runs and sets worth at least 101 points in one go, or with at least 5 pairs (çifte gitmek, going for pairs).
      6. After a runs-and-sets opening you may lay new runs and sets and add tiles to the runs and sets on the table, and lay pairs once someone has opened with pairs. After a pairs opening you lay only pairs and add tiles to the runs and sets on the table. Your turn ends when you discard a tile to your right.
      7. Lay down all your tiles and discard the last one to finish the hand (−101). The match ends when a player's total reaches 1,000, and the lowest total wins.

      Game modes

      Vs the computer

      Pick Easy, Medium or Hard (Medium is chosen to begin with), choose the variant and press New Game. The game starts at once and the computer plays the other three seats. No account is needed and there is no clock; these games do not count towards your rating.

      Free online table

      Choose the button beside Vs Computer, then the Free table type. You sit at the four-seat table of the variant you chose (101, Classic Okey or its team game), and the deal starts when the table is full. You can play as a guest, with no account. Each turn gives you 25 seconds to draw and discard, plus a 30-second reserve for the whole match.

      Private room

      Creating a private room needs an account: if you are not signed in, Create Room opens the sign-in page first. Share the room code shown at the table; your friends type it under Room code and press Join, with no account needed. The room plays the variant its creator chose and starts once four players are seated. Private rooms are free, and an empty room closes after 5 hours.

      Credit tables

      The Rookie, Amateur, Master and Elite tables take an entry of 100, 500, 2,000 and 10,000 credits, the site's game points. They are online only, never in a private room, and need an account, at least 3 days old for Master and Elite. Credits have no money value: they cannot be bought, sold or exchanged for money. Credit tables are 18+.

      The rules in short

      Players4 seats; in 101 everyone plays for themselves (there is no team 101)
      Tiles106 tiles: 1 to 13 in four colours, two of each, plus 2 false jokers (★)
      The okeyThe indicator's colour, one number higher; if the indicator is a 13, the okey is the 1
      False joker (★)Not wild: it carries the okey's face and plays only as that tile. The only wilds are the two okeys.
      The deal21 tiles each, 22 for the starting player
      OpeningRuns and sets worth at least 101 points in one go, or at least 5 pairs (çifte gitmek)
      An okey on the tableIt keeps standing for the tile it was laid as. Once you have opened, you may put that tile in its place and take the okey (in a set, only when all four colours go down).
      Finishing the handEvery tile laid down, the last one discarded
      12-13-1Not a run: the 1 is only the lowest tile (1-2-3 is a run)
      Discarding an okey or a playable tile+101 penalty points (except the last tile, which finishes the hand)
      Finishing scoresThe finisher −101. Throwing the okey as the last tile, or finishing after a pairs opening, doubles the finish: −202; both together −404.
      Going out in one goLaying the whole hand at once while nobody has opened: the finisher −202, everyone else +404; with the okey as the last tile −404 / +808
      Tiles left in handA player who opened scores the tiles left (twice that after a pairs opening), plus 101 for each okey still held; a player who never opened scores 202. A doubled finish doubles these too; the 101 per okey and the +101 discard penalties are never doubled.
      When the stock runs outThe hand ends with no finisher, and everyone scores what is in their hand
      The indicatorIt only decides the okey; in oyna.app's 101, showing the indicator scores nothing
      End of the matchWhen a player's total reaches 1,000; the lowest total wins
      How Classic Okey differsClassic Okey deals 14 tiles (15 to the starting player), has no opening and no discard penalty, counts 12-13-1 as a run and counts down from 20, 30, 40 or 50. Its rules are on the Classic Okey page.
      Online clock25 seconds per turn (drawing and discarding together) and a 30-second reserve for the match; no clock against the computer

      Frequently asked questions

      How many players does okey need?

      Four, and every table here has four seats. To play alone, play against the computer, which takes the other three seats. A private room starts only once four players are seated, so it cannot be played three-handed.

      Can I play okey online without an account?

      Yes. Games against the computer and the free online tables need no account, and nothing is downloaded: the table opens in your browser. You need an account only to create a private room or to sit at a credit table.

      How do I play okey online with friends?

      Sign in, choose the button beside Vs Computer and press Create Room under Private room. Share the room code shown at the table; your three friends type it under Room code and press Join. The game starts once all four are seated, in the variant you chose.

      Which okey can I play here: Okey 101 or Classic Okey?

      Both. The game panel starts on Okey 101, and Variant also offers Classic Okey (14) and its partnership game, Classic Okey — Teams (2v2); there is no team 101. The Classic Okey page opens with Classic Okey chosen.

      How many computer levels are there?

      Three levels: Easy, Medium and Hard, with Medium chosen to begin with. Games against the computer have no clock and do not count towards your rating.

      Is there a time limit at an online okey table?

      Yes. Each turn gives you 25 seconds to draw and discard, plus a 30-second reserve for the whole match that runs once a turn's 25 seconds are used up. If your connection drops, your seat waits 45 seconds for you to come back.

      What does it cost to throw the okey?

      +101 penalty points in Okey 101, unless the okey is your last tile: then it doubles your finish instead, to −202 (−404 after a pairs opening). The penalty table shows what every discard costs.

      Is 12-13-1 a run in Okey 101?

      No. In this site's Okey 101 the 1 is only the lowest tile, so 1-2-3 is a run and 12-13-1 is not; in Classic Okey 12-13-1 counts. The 12-13-1 section sets out both.

      Is the false joker wild here?

      No. Only the two okeys are wild. Each false joker (★, sahte okey) plays as the okey's own tile: with a Yellow 5 indicator, the okeys and both false jokers are Yellow 6s. The false joker guide has worked examples.
